Burn Me Down (feat. Devvlov)

about

18Scales is catching flies with “Burn Me Down.” You know what I mean, right? Don’t they say, “you catch more flies with honey than vinegar”? Well, in a time of bitter division and vitriol in American society, a message delivered with tact and thoughtfulness stands out.

Ric Scales and Ralph Quasar play with cannabis culture lingo and literal and metaphorical messages of burning down the system wherein “a black man can lose his life for drinking a smoothie, selling a movie, in a car with his family cruising, or posted up in his front yard…” It’s likely this message can sidestep the “well, I don’t like a lot of what ‘black lives matter’ stands for,” nonsense, and will likely stir up some empathy in listeners. Kindred spirit, friend, and collaborator, DevvLov, spreads a light coat of his vocal honey atop the track, adding the proverbial spoonful of sugar that hopefully helps the medicine go down. “Burn Me Down” is a refreshing attack on white supremacy in the US, and will hopefully spark a flame; “we don’t need no water, let that muhfucker burn!”
